The Halal Guys Restaurant (New York, NY)

Continuing with my last post about The Halal Guys, they’ve finally opened a restaurant in the city at 14th Street! I decided to go check it out to see if there were any major differences with the food quality. Obviously there wasn’t but they’ve added additional side items to their menu like fries, tabbouleh, hummus, babaganoush, and etc. Their decor was artsy and attractive, but the only negative aspect that I can think of is the congested seating arrangement. The restaurant is always busy and packed so it is quite difficult to finding seating if you wish to dine in. Other than that, everything else was fine. Also, if any of you are wondering if the platter prices remain the same, yes it does and the spiciness of the hot sauce remains the same as well! Definitely worth checking out!

Jade Eatery & Lounge (Forest Hills, NY)

DSCF2935It was my friend, Linda’s birthday a few days ago and we decided to dine in a Thai restaurant called Jade Eatery & Lounge in Forest Hills, NY. It’s located right by the busy Austin Street and near the 71st Continental MTA station. The interior and vibe of the restaurant was really relaxing. They even have a mini koi pond by their Buddha statue. But besides the setting of the restaurant, the service was welcoming and the food was splendid!

L to R: Blackberry Lemonade, Fried Calamari, Penang Curry Shrimp (with bell peppers, peanuts, cherry tomatoes, coconut cream), Tofu Pad Thai, and Fried Ice Cream.

For an overall experience with appetizer, main course, and dessert, the tab can be a bit pricey (i.e. consider spending over a minimum of $40), but the quality and quantity makes it all well worth it.

Check it out for yourselves!

Nostalgic Memories at Arharn Thai

During my childhood, Arharn Thai, located at 36th Avenue Astoria, NY used to be one of my go-to places with my family for special occasions such as graduations, anniversaries, and birthdays. To many, it may seem like a typical restaurant. However, every time I pass this restaurant, it always brings back blissful nostalgic memories from decades ago. Today, I was in the mood to re-live those happy memories and was craving for the red snapper that my parents used to order at Arharn Thai. I finally decided to stop by after many years and ordered the same items that my parents would when I was a kid. It may sound ludicrous, but the 30-minutes car ride was totally worth it!

For appetizers, we started off with the following:

Shrimp Tom Yom Soup

Steamed Mussels

For the main course:

Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables

Mixed Vegetable Fried Rice

Fried Red Snapper with Sweet, Sour, & Chili Sauce

The dishes were absolutely delicious and the red snapper was sweet and spicy, just the way my family and I enjoyed it! Lastly, to finish off the meal, we would always have mango with sweet sticky rice as desert. Unfortunately, with summer almost at its end, mango season is also finished and so the restaurant was not offering the item at this time of the year. Nevertheless, if you’re in Astoria, do check this place out!
